Quick Tips For Moving Appliances
Moving Appliances

Moving is a strenuous activity that most people dread. But all this comes about due to improper planning and preparation. One aspect of moving that gets neglected is the preparation for moving appliances. When this happens, you may end up having defective appliances after the move which then means you have to use more money for repairs or even replacing them.

It is very important that you hire services of professional movers. These movers are experienced in moving about fragile and sensitive appliances without damaging them. You can request movers to take care of heavier items but you need to be actively involved in the packing process especially the appliances. Here are some of the tips on how to pack your appliances before you move out:

Refrigerators

Before moving a refrigerator, you should always unplug it 24 hours prior to moving. Clean out the refrigerator by clearing all the food and then clean it meticulously on the inside. Clean the refrigerator using warm water with baking soda and detergent both inside and outside and dry it thoroughly. Leave the doors open for the next 24 hours to ensure that it dries up well and no moisture is left. Place an odor preventative inside once you are done cleaning.

Washers

Make sure that you turn off the cold and hot water lines and disconnect the drain hoses. Let all the water drain from the tub and then wrap the end of the metal connector in a towel. For safe transportation, place the connector inside the washer. Ensure that the mover secures the tab during the move to keep it from swaying.

Freezers

Start preparing for the move by using up all the perishable food items in the freezer to clear it up. Place towels underneath your freezer before unplugging and defrosting to absorb excess water. Remember that you need to do this at least 24 hours before the move. Clean out the freezer and make sure it is completely dry not to leave any traces of moisture in it. Any amount of moisture will encourage the growth of molds and mildew.

Dryers

Start by cleaning the inside of the dryer by removing debris from the lint screen using your fingers or a paper towel. Never use water to do this. Upload old dry rags in the dryer before running the normal drying cycle. This is to get rid of any soap residue that may be left in the dryer. Use a dry towel to dry off the inside of the drum. Make sure that you disconnect your dryer from the electrical supply.

TV And Sound Systems

You should always keep the packaging that comes with appliances like TVs and sound system. These boxes already have enough padding to keep the TV safe during a move. If by any chance you do not have the original packaging materials. Get a box that will fit your appliance and make sure that you use lots of padding from other sources to ensure it is well secured and upright. Always pack all the cables connecting to the TV and sound system with the TV for easy relocation.
