Well, the more I look at all the information here, the more scared I get! Is it possible to have a good moving experience these days?
I am moving from West Chester PA to Wilmington NC in about 6 weeks and have been receiving phone calls and e-mails like crazy with quotes for this move. I have several concerns (well, many now…) ![]()
One company that I am confused about is a company called Nationwide relocation services (www.movingcost.com). This is a broker company, so I doubt that I will use it. I will tell you what the agent told me on the phone and see if anyone has any comments:
They are having a 72% off sale right now (if it looks too good to be true, it probably is…)
Estimate of approx $1622 door-to-door for 4500 pounds, will adjust based on actual weight.
They do have a Binding estimate, which they say is based on ONLY the weight of the items transported, but still want me to sign an inventory list as part of the aggreement. And the fine print of the terms states that if the weight, distance, OR items listed differ from those on the estimate, then the prices may be adjusted.
They HAVE agreed to let me go to the weigh station before and after my belongings have been loaded.
They also state in their agreement that they are not responsible for the charges by the actual carrier… as follows:
CUSTOMER HAS ELECTED A ?NOT TO EXCEED COST? PRICE, THE TOTAL COST WILL NOT EXCEED THE ESTIMATED AMOUNT; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT
CUSTOMER PROVIDES NATIONWIDE WITH AN ACCURATE DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEMS TO BE MOVED AND THE SERVICES TO BE PERFORMED. CUSTOMER HAS
REQUESTED TO HAVE A ESTIMATE PROVIDED FOR HIS/HER HOUSEHOLD GOODS RELOCATION, AND WAIVES HIS/HER RIGHT TO A VISUAL IN-HOME ESTIMATE IF
IF CUSTOMER?S ITEMS, WEIGHT OR SERVICES ARE LESS THAN THE ESTIMATED AMOUNT, THEN CUSTOMER SHALL PAY FOR THE ACTUAL
COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THESE ITEMS RATHER THAN THE ESTIMATE. CUSTOMER UNDERSTANDS THAT NATIONWIDE HAS A 2000 LB MINIMUM ON ALL
SHIPMENTS. ANY SHIPMENT BELOW 2000 LBS. WILL BE CHARGED AT THE 2000 LBS. RATE. THE PRICE INCLUDES ALL FUEL SURCHARGES, TOLLS, LOAD AND
UNLOAD, BASIC DISASSEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY OF STANDARD FURNITURE ITEMS. ELABORATE FURNITURE ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE DISASSEMBLED AND/OR
REASSEMBLED MAY REQUIRE 3RD PARTY SERVICING OR ADDITIONAL LABOR AND SHOULD BE DISCLOSED TO YOUR ESTIMATOR AND INCLUDED IN YOUR
ESTIMATE. DISCONNECT AND/OR RECONNECT OF APPLIANCES IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE. THE PACKING AND UNPACKING OF BOXES IS ONLY INCLUDED IN
THE PRICE IF IT IS ITEMIZED IN THE ?PACKING AND UNPACKING? SECTION OF YOUR ESTIMATE.
My only reasons for considering using this company are that the BBB has this company listed as an accredited business since 2005 and while they had 75 complaints filed with the NCCDB, they perform over 2400 moves each year. And to top that off, I can’t find any info on here one way or the other regarding this company. Does anyone have any info on this company?
Thanks a million in advance!
Anna
